Hate will not stop the Marriage Tour

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

Attention liberals and activists of the homosexual agenda: Your hateful and militant tactics will not stop the Summer for Marriage Tour.

That's right. Today we have seen what is remarkably a 'low' for the activists of the homosexual agenda but don't be fooled - it's not a new low. They have resorted to these tactics during the Proposition 8 campaign in CA and they have conducted their first vandalism of the Summer for Marriage Tour.

While I stepped away from the Marriage Tour RV in Atlantic City, NJ today to get a glimpse of the ocean and take a few pictures of the beach, someone, who clearly has their mind set on same-sex marriage punctured close to a two-inch-long hole into the rear, driver side wheel of the RV.

This caused only a 6-hour delay because I can assure you that the damage and replacement of the tire was paid for by roadside assistance and by 9pm I was back on the road, straight out of Atlantic City, which you can see a picture of from where I got the tire replaced.

From there, I headed North, to where I am staying overnight at my sister's house near New York City.

Let me emphasize this: These tactics will not stop the marriage tour. While the hole was too large for fix-a-flat, we were able to get the tire replaced without disrupting the tour schedule and actually it was a blessing in disguise as we now have hired security to look after our vehicles and equipment for the duration of the tour.

So in that way, it's good that this happened now, a couple days before the tour when we have the time for delays and flat tires and the like.

Tomorrow morning I am headed to Connecticut to pick up Brian Brown and his family. Connecticut is about an hour or two from where I am spending the night in New Jersey. Then, it's off to Maine to kick-off the Summer for Marriage Tour from Augusta on July 14th.

Marriage Tour RV departs Atlanta

Saturday, July 10, 2010

Although last night brought dark clouds, wind and rain just as I was on my way to pick up the Marriage Tour RV in Norcross, GA the weather had subsided by morning and a silvery-blue sky promised a warm and sunny day was to follow.

So today 7:00 AM, I picked up the NOM RV and navigated the giant through the I-85 corridor throughout the afternoon, stopping twice to reposition the passenger side mirror before I went to Sears and purchased the tool I needed to secure the mirror in it's place for good.

It did the trick. The mirror didn't move the rest of the trip and I didn't have any more issues with it. It was quite a dangerous problem, though, as I was completely unable to see the right side of the RV or any of the lanes to the right of me while driving.

During that stop in a southern suburb of Charlotte called Pineville, I met with my cousins - one of which recently married - and their kids for lunch at The Olive Garden. They live in that area and so it was a great opportunity to stop by and have a bite to eat with the family.

I had a great dish of Chicken Alfredo and a really good strawberry-mango fruit drink. Non-alcoholic of course. All of that came after a few of Olive Garden's delicious garlic rolls. Can't go to Olive Garden and not have the garlic rolls!

Unfortunately, I ran into some delays after lunch. I sure hope everyone walked out of this one alive. There is actually a lot more than what this pictures shows. After I took the photo, I thought it was over but in reality, behind that white truck, or - what is left of that white truck, is a slew of pieces from torn apart vehicles.

Again, I certainly hope everyone was OK. Traffic did unexpectedly pick up immediately after the accident - I was afriad we would be backed up for miles but we were only like that for a few minutes.

I was thinking to myself - If I was in San Fransisco or Boston or Madison, WI right now... in this RV, I'd be a sitting duck! It's a good thing I was in the Bible Belt.

Leaving Charlotte, I continued on the I-85 North and made it to Durham before stopping for gas. It was quite hot and humid at that time so I also enjoyed and brought on board a grape slushy for the ride.

Yes, that's a BP gas station. No, that station isn't in anyway responsible for the oil spill in the gulf. And no, I prefer not to be politically correct by using another station - just for all you liberals out there.

In reality, the oil spill wouldn't be so bad if certain politicans in high places in D.C. weren't so concerned with playing political games. I won't name any names.

Anyway, the road ahead brought me into Virginia,
where I decided to stay for the night. Tomorrow I am setting off early to make it to the DC area by 10:00 AM, then onward to Philadelphia. The schedule has me going Connecticut to pick up Brian Brown and his family on Tuesday.

The first rally on the marriage tour is in Augusta, Maine on July 14th in Capital Park. More information about the marriage tour here.

Summer Marriage Tour approaches

Thursday, July 8, 2010

The National Organization for Marriage is getting ready for it's 6000+ mile road trip across the eastern half of the United States where we will be holding rallies in seventeen different states from Maine to Minnesota, from Florida to the District of Columbia. The first rally, which is being held in Augusta, Maine on the 14th of July is less than a week away.

Right now, however, the work is centered in the greater Atlanta region, where the NOM RV is being wrapped with the NOM logo and prepared for the marriage tour. The RV is expected to be ready by Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, the NOM van with the AV supplies we picked up here in Atlanta began its journey to Maine today and will be stopping in  D.C. and Philadephia to pick up more supplies.

That leaves only Louis Marinelli in Atlanta to finish up preparations with the RV before he drives it up the east coast to Connecticut, where he'll be meeting up with Brian Brown and his family before continuing onto Augusta for the kick-off rally.

Reaction to NOM presence has been mixed here in Atlanta but has been more positive than negative. Yesterday, a handful of teenagers packed into a small white car beside the NOM van at a red light took notice of the van's exterior design which reads "Protecting Marriage Between One Man and One Woman".

"Hey, you guys are against gay marriage!" one girl yelled out, calling the NOM van to the attention of her friends, who proceeded to yell out vulgarities and show their middle fingers to us. Then they got camera shy when Louis started taking photos of them from inside the van. The girl in the front passenger side tried to cover her face.

Real courageous group.

On the other hand, the majority of responses thus far have been signs of support in the form of a thumbs up or  a simple wave from passing drivers.

Although NOM is currently in Atlanta for preparations, we will be returning on the Marriage Tour to hold a rally on August 7th, 2010. For more information, including location and time information, see the Summer for Marriage Tour website.
